|HR Prodigy Group News|
Our HR Prodigy group recently toured two businesses that help shape the culture within Tampa Bay.
In April, we visited one of Tampa’s most well-known TV stations, WFLA News Channel 8, to learn about the HR practices and types of roles that are offered in a media setting. Our visit began with Wes Zweibel who graciously provided a fascinating tour which included; the newsroom, the Daytime studio, and the temporary news set. We were surprised to receive a warm welcome from meteorologist, Bryan Bennett, who was there preparing for a Saturday morning broadcast. He invited us into the Weather Center studio and allowed us to check out all the high tech equipment, teleprompter and the clever push buttons designed to change the maps on the all. The students took full advantage and asked insightful questions, learning that it takes specific education, the desire to make it happen, and perseverance to become a news weather reporter. The view from Channel 8’s balcony is spectacular and provides access to the downtown Tampa skyline, Riverwalk and Hillsborough River. Those images remain a fond memory for our HR Prodigy students and mentors. After the tour of the facility, Wes shared an overview of the HR department of a news station, and educated the group about his role within the organization and how HR impacts the company.
On July 26th, the HR Prodigy students and mentors were provided a private tour in one of Tampa Bay’s most prized tourist attraction, the Dali Museum. Students were given insight in the artwork of Dali, the various types of jobs needed in the museum, as well as the art restoration field. Our expert docent, Sandra Hall Woodworth, gave us a VIP experience, sharing details about Dali's life and family, as well as allowing us to ask questions about a few of Dali's most famous works of art, like The Lincoln and The Ecumenical Council. After the tour, we enjoyed lunch at the museums bright and modern cafe, where the students shared some of their favorite art experiences of the tour.
