Mid Year Check Point
Ana Swiger, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR
It is hard to believe that we are half way through 2018!
HR Tampa continues to make excellent progress against the goals and priorities we established for the year!
All of our success is thanks to our members, Board Members and our many invested partners.
I’m encouraged by the work I see HR Tampa accomplishing to ensure that we continue to be one of the most engaged and notable chapters in Florida. And I’m optimistic as the year progresses, that we continue to evolve and undergo changes as well, yet we remain focused on our deliverables for 2018 in order to continue important progress toward our chapter-wide strategies.
Each member, committee and initiative contributes to our overall strategy and what we do impacts our membership, as well as our community partners across the Tampa Bay area.
Our Board of Directors are directly responsible for key components of our 2018 strategies. But we know that each and everyone of you, does ultimately impact our chapter, which means we can all contribute and take pride in HR Tampa’s successes!
So far this year we’ve made great progress… stay tuned, there are more good things to come!
HR Tampa Receives Prestigious SHRM Award for Advancing the HR Profession
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded HR Tampa the prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the HR Tampa’s accomplishments in 2017.
The award aligns individual chapters’ and state councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resource profession.
“SHRM exists because of our great chapters like HR Tampa which work tirelessly to help advance the important mission of the HR profession through initiatives that support our future, build inclusive organizations and focus on workplace readiness,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr.,president and chief executive officer of SHRM. “Recognizing you as a recipient of this prestigious award is just one way to show that SHRM supports you and that we are by your side step by step as we move Together Forward.”
The EXCEL Award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. HR Tampa will receive recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences for receiving the Excel Platinum Award.

HR Tampa has selected Eckerd Connects – Raising Hope for 2018 Expo Charity
In April, HR Tampa kicked off our fundraising efforts for Eckerd Connects - Rooms for Hope. We are selling Blue Pinwheels at Chapter meetings for $5.00/each “in memory of” and “in honor of” which will be on display at our annual conference and expo on October 12th. HR Tampa is also selling T-shirts for $10.00/each. All monies collected will be donated to the charity.
Why Blue Pinwheels?
In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the pinwheel as the new national symbol for child abuse prevention through Pinwheels for Prevention®. What our research showed, and what our experiences since then have borne out, is that people respond to the pinwheel. By its very nature, the pinwheel connotes whimsy and childlike notions. In essence, it has come to serve as the physical embodiment, or reminder, of the great childhoods we want for all children.
Online donations may be made via our conference website, click here.
