Autism Facts:

  • Today, 1 in 54 children are diagnosed with Autism. 
  • Our Autism Community is growing rapidly and business will experience more of the Autism community in their own employee base.  This will includes individuals diagnosed with autism and parents/caregivers/families of those diagnosed.
  • In our environment today, Autism is a very stigmatized diagnosis causing families a lot of worry, discouragement and fear.  This can greatly affect an employee’s performance at work.
  • The Autism community is not self-identifying to their employers for fear of losing their jobs or concern that it will affect their position in some way.  This can cause more anxiety for them.
  • Employers can provide support to the Autism community and create a more passionate and dedicated employee base.


Project/Program Description:   Creating Autism Business Shifters


What is an Autism Business Shifter?

A business that supports team members on the Autism Spectrum or Parents/Caregivers of those diagnosed through a partnership with Autism Shifts to provide:

  • Specialized Training
  • Resources
  • Connection Opportunities


Ways Businesses can support this population?

  • Survey employees to identify who is touched by Autism and what services they need.
  • Build the HR support of the Autism to create happier and more productive employees
  • Host in-house specialized training for their team members or promote Autism Shifts specialized training programs
  • Provide opportunities for connection within your organization to those employees touched by Autism
  • Reimburse or sponsor team member’s membership fee to join our Shifter Membership program ($30 individual membership/$50 family membership)


Intended Impact of this Program/Project

  • To be the Autism resource to businesses and HR departments to help them serve this large and growing community
  • To serve our Autism Community in a way that helps them have more success at work, and at home


How will you determine the Success of this Project/Program?

  • Number of businesses that engage in the program
  • We will survey the business before and after implementation of this program to see how our program has enhanced their offering and support to the Autism Community.
  • Measure the Impact on the Autism Community that we serve through this program (survey)


Evaluation Procedures:

We will implement a survey/assessment with the business as well as with our Autism Population.
