Workforce Readiness Update

Workforce Readiness Update

(January/February 2017)

One of the most timeless conversations I ever participated in came from a California contractor who said that there are three types of people…1) People who make things happen, 2) People who complain about what happened and, 3) People who wonder what happened…

By the time this article is read, we will have already swept past six weeks in 2017 and as we soon approach beautiful springtime here in the Sunshine State,  #HRTampa’s Workforce Readiness Committee will continue to make strides with a variety of Initiatives within the Tampa Bay area.

We would like to introduce each of you to these Initiatives and welcome your feedback and participation:

Veterans Initiative:

  • Discover military skillsets by participating in ESGR’s 4th Amphibious Assault Battalion event scheduled for MacDill Air Force Base on March 22, 2017.
  • Partner with local Chamber of Commerce organizations and their Military Affairs Committee.
  • Enhance HR Tampa’s presence among the United Service Organization (USO) through volunteer outreach and community efforts.
  • Work with the Veteran Arts Museum in St. Petersburg whose mission is to provide healing, therapy and educational programming to active military, veterans, first responders and their families.

HR Prodigy Program:

  • Work closely with local high school administrations in order to encourage students to become a proud member of the human resource profession by participating in educational opportunities, while at the same time, creating an atmosphere of excitement among students through #HRTampa events.
  • Partner with HR professionals within the local business community, colleges and universities, in order to encourage on-site visits and possible scholarship opportunities for students that are interested in pursuing the human resource profession after high school.
  • Strengthen existing committee and community efforts in order to inform the public of #HRTampa’s commitment to the next generation and the need for expert HR professionals.

HR Professionals in Transition:

  • Develop methods to identify HR professionals seeking employment opportunities.
  • Identify avenues to promote or advertise these individuals through a variety of networking events.
  • Plan event(s) throughout the year for employers and transitioning HR professionals-alike to participate in, creating a strengthened network of opportunity and possible job placement.

Awareness is just half of the solution!  It takes a grass roots effort and many volunteers to make a difference in a community.  We would encourage you to be someone who makes things happen this year and we would love to have your help and support.

Should you desire to be involved in any or all of these efforts, please let me know at or call me directly at 813-624-9681 for next steps on how to get involved.

Don’t let another year go by wondering what you could have done for the HR profession, so LET’S GET STARTED TODAY!
