2019 Leadership

Layla Bonis, SHRM-CP, PHR


The President of HR Tampa provides leadership to the local chapter consistent with state, regional, and SHRM policy, strategies and objectives. Effectively operates the chapter so that the needs of the members are met. Perform other duties as required by the local chapter's bylaws. Serves as a voting member of the state council.

Past President



The Past President advises the President and other officers and members of the Board of Directors regarding past practices, general operations, and other matters to assist in the smooth operation of the chapter. In addition, educates, promotes, and represents the interests of the SHRM Foundation and its activities to the chapter membership.

Carol Brnich, SHRM-SCP, SPHR



 The Secretary takes minutes of chapter meetings, provide notice of meetings and general correspondence. Maintains chapter records and history.

Chris Cavaliere, Esq.




The Treasurer acts as financial officer and advisor to chapter board of directors, maintains the chapter mailbox and distributes mail to the appropriate officer or director. Sends dues notices and other invoices to members. Files appropriate forms and information with IRS.


Patricia Sullivan, PhD, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
Director of Certification



The Director of Certification manages HR Tampa’s certification study program, encourages members to become certified and recertified. Increases the number of chapter members who are certified either PHR/SPHR/GPHR by the HR Certification Institute and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP by the Society of Human Resource Management.

Director of College Relations




The Director of College Relations manages the Tampa Bay HR Student Chapter (Chapter #5568), scholarship program, internship and mentor programs and college outreach efforts.

Director of Diversity


The Director of Diversity monitors and evaluates on a continuing basis local activities concerning diversity issues. Spearheads the effort to diversify the chapter's membership/leadership and to publicize successful diversity programs in the local community.

Director of Hospitality



The Director of Hospitality welcomes new members into the chapter and helps coordinate the logistics of monthly membership meetings.

Director of Legislative Affairs


The Director of Legislative Affairs monitors and evaluates on a continuing basis pending legislative, regulatory and legal action at the federal, state, and local level that may have an impact on the management of human resources. Presents a legislative report or update to the chapter members. Works in close cooperation with the State Governmental Affairs Director and the SHRM headquarters staff in carrying out these responsibilities.

The Director of Membership manages the membership function to successfully achieve an increase in chapter membership.

Director of Programs




The Director of Programs manages the activities of the professional development committee to provide seminars, workshops and other professional development opportunities for the chapter membership.

Director of Sponsorship



The Director of Sponsorship identifies and acquires sponsors for HR Tampa meetings and events who are willing to assist HR Tampa financially in return for an opportunity to promote their product or service to members. Conducts benchmarking and networking activities necessary for creating a viable sponsor program.

The Director of Technology manages and maintains the HR Tampa website, its pages and related information technology.

Marylou Ponzi Kay, SHRM-SCP, SPHR 
Director of Workforce Readiness

The Director of Workforce Readiness monitors and evaluates on a continuing basis local activities concerning workforce readiness issues and plans and encourages chapter involvement and activities impacting the workforce readiness arena. Presents a report or update to the chapter president and fellow chapter members. Works in cooperation with state-level workforce readiness advocates.
